Some of you might know, others maybe you had no idea. But starting on October 10th, the 2020 Crossfit season begins with the announcement of open workout 20.1.

In the past the open has been in February, but recently has been changed to October. The reason for this? Basically to take away regionals and the invitational and have more sanctional events that “Elite” competitors can participate in.

In the words of Greg Glassman “The plan is to restructure the company (and) de-emphasize the Games . . . change the very structure of the Games to something that’s more sustainable and fundamentally globalize the Games. This is the path to 150,000 affiliates and we’re excited about it,”

He felt that people were focused solely on the games more so than every day athletes. While this might be true for some gyms, seeing how having CrossFit Games athletes are quite rare, I can’t see everything being totally obsessed with the games and not their members, all though i’m sure some gyms out there had that obsession with the games.

So we will be doing the Open in October! The open will then be every year in October, this will be the “new” open dates. It will from here on out, begin in October. We have asked around on facebook on our group page on whether you would like it still to be on Friday nights with football going on or if Saturday mornings would be better. If you haven’t, please let us know in person or on facebook what day would be best so we can get ready for it.

As always we’d love everyone to participate in the open. Many people will say “I don’t like to compete” or “Why should I do the open if i’m not going to the games?”

Of course you guys can do what you want, but the reason we encourage you to sign up is for a couple reasons. #1 you must be somewhat competitive, if not with others at least with yourself. If you aren’t then why do you want to be better at life, your job, parenting, etc? In order to want to be better you have to want to work harder, which in a sense is being competitive. #2 is you get to measure up and see how you’ve improved from last open. They always retest a workout, and it’s nice to see how much you’ve improved. Also very eye opening to see what movements you still need work on or movements you are better than you thought you were. #3 is it gets you working harder. Sign up for a 5k and suddenly you’re off the couch more, eating healthier, running more. Same goes for the open. Sign up for the open, you now have a reason to hit some goals, work on weaknesses, etc. Be part of the community, and come have some fun with us! Sign up!
